Introduction
For generations the Triad has been renowned for their many women and men that serve in the armed forces. This becomes more evident with the year 2000 Census statistics that show there are more than 150 thousand veterans in the Triad. The largest concentration in the State.
To Honor Those Who Serve this Great Nation
In the years of Triad history our residents have answered the call to duty in every conflict from WWI through today in Iraq and Afghanistan. This service to our communities and our Country has not gone with our sacrifice to the families that dwell here today. One can only guess the number of family members in our community that their lives where touch by our local heroes. The common denominator is “remembering”. The memories of our family members that serve in the Armed forces bring a sound foundation to the history, education and pride of the Triad. These men and women serve to ensure our freedoms and protect us. It is our duty to remember these brave servants of our society so that others who visit and dwell in the Triad can be proud of the commitment that we make to sustain the liberty that our founders provided for us all.
The Carolina Field of Honor will be a symbol of historical fact that our community shows the highest respect and honor to our Veterans, those serving today and those that will serve us in the future. A sacred ground of those we respect and honor. Over 150,000 Veterans and their families will have refuge of solace giving them the privilege of remembering their loved ones and educating future generations in a beautiful setting used as both a recreational retreat and the facilities for ceremonies and events that honor those that serve. A place of honor and hope for the families of those serving today.
The memorial is to show our tribute to all generations that serve and the Parade Deck will provide both counties a ceremonial platform that can be used by Veterans, Active duty Military Units in the Area, Law enforcement, Boy Scouts and many other community groups that honor achievements for actions and services they perform in our community. There are no facilities in the Triad that provide such a respectful tribute.
Most monuments and memorials in the area are specific to a certain military conflict or generation. This project will be for all generations past, present and future. The park will be a pleasant escape for local families and tourist.
The park will be designed to accommodate school children, tourists and residents of the area in a comfortable setting that includes the history of those in the area who have served. The design will include handicap facilities and a walking trail that will take visitors down the history of the brave men who have served. Truly a message to all that the Triad understands the price of peace and freedom.
